Luigi Macaluso, owner and chairman of the Girard-Perregaux watch company, assumed control of the firm in 1992 and brought it back from the brink of extinction. The reason Girard-Perregaux was struggling and little recognized in the early 90's was its exclusive focus on craftmanship at the expense of marketing. Convinced that the company could be reinvigorated "with a shot of horsepower" Macaluso set out to negotiate a deal with Ferrari in 1994, that allowed him to use the fabled "prancing pony" logo on the watch dials.
