Luigi Macaluso, owner and chairman of the Girard-Perregaux watch company, assumed control of the firm in 1992 and brought it back from the brink of extinction. The reason Girard-Perregaux was struggling and little recognized in the early 90's was its exclusive focus on craftmanship at the expense of marketing. Convinced that the company could be reinvigorated "with a shot of horsepower" Macaluso set out to negotiate a deal with Ferrari in 1994, that allowed him to use the fabled "prancing pony" logo on the watch dials. Since then several Girard Perregaux pour Ferrari models have been created and the watch company is finally getting the recognition they deserve.
