HUBLOT MDM WATCHES HISTORY

Hublot was born out of a desire to transcend contemporary watch design and produce a unique watch line. Creator Carlo Crocco acquired strong notions of beauty growing up in a family of watchmakers, and by 1977 had designed his first watch. In 1980 he established his own company, MDM Genève, hoping to create a watch whose elegant and sporty design would be appreciated the world over.

Crocco was determined to develop a watch that not only had pure lines and a respect for the materials used, but one that transcended changing fashions and could be worn in both elegant and informal situations. His first rule was simplicity: no superfluous design elements. The look was modeled after a porthole (Hublot, in fact, is French for porthole), and the watch made from materials ranging from finely brushed steel to gold. Twelve titanium screws anchored the bezel to the case, marking the hours in a confluence of form and function. As for the case itself, it required no less than 160 manual operations to obtain the desired degree of perfection. For the strap, Carlo Crocco decided leather was too fragile. While looking at a working drawing of the watch, on which the strap was represented in basic black, he was struck by how matte black could perfectly complement both steel and gold. But what material could deliver such a deep, rich satin black? It suddenly came to him: rubber.

After three years of research, the revolutionary rubber strap was ready for production. Supple, light, and highly durable, the strap also had a delicate vanilla scent. The corrosion-resistant strap was also reinforced with invisible steel inserts and sported a double-hinged clasp, ensuring a solid attachment to both the wearer's wrist and the watch itself. The Hublot watch was thus born, its natural rubber strap ensuring its status as a one-of-a-kind timepiece.

Colleagues and competitors were dubious when Carlo Crocco presented the Hublot watch at Basel Fair in 1980, but were soon won over as it went on to become the "Sensation" of the year. The Hublot became instantly recognizable, its swift acceptance surpassing all expectations. Members of several royal families spontaneously showed their enthusiasm for the Hublot, and it soon became the choice of the world's leading personalities. Carlo Crocco had taken a bold risk, and in a few short years Hublot watches were elevated into the exclusive circle of prestige Swiss watchmaking houses.

In the mid-1990's, natural rubber came to the attention of renowned watchmakers as evidenced by their recent models. This fact proves the validity of the choices that led to the creation of the Hublot watch and reinforce its status as a "Classic". RELOJERIA HUBLOT

Hublot nació de un deseo de llegar más allá en el diseño de relojes contemporáneos y producir una línea exclusiva de relojes. Su creador, Carlo Crocco, adquirió nociones de la belleza creciendo en una familia de relojeros, y hacia 1977 diseñó su primer reloj.



En 1980 fundó su propia compañía, MDM Genève, con la esperanza de crear un reloj cuyo diseño elegante y deportivo sería apreciado en el mundo entero.



Crocco estaba decidido a crear un reloj que no tuviera únicamente líneas puras y respeto por los materiales utilizados, sino uno que permaneciera a través de las modas y pudiera ser llevado tanto en situaciones elegantes como informales.



Su primera norma fue la simplicidad: eliminar los elementos superfluos en el diseño.



El reloj se realizó tomando como modelo un ojo de buey (Hublot, en francés quiere decir ojo de buey) y se hizo con materiales que iban desde el acero pulido hasta el oro. Doce tornillos de titanio unían el bisel a la caja, marcando las horas en unión de forma y función.

Al igual que para la caja en sí, el reloj requería no menos de 160 operaciones manuales para obtener el grado deseado de perfección.



Para la correa, Carlo Crocco decidió que el cuero era demasiado frágil. Mientras miraba un diseño pintado del reloj, en el que la correa estaba representada en color negro básico, se maravilló con cómo el negro mate complementaba perfectamente tanto el acero como el oro. Pero, ¿qué material podía proporcionar ese color negro tan intenso y satinado? Enseguida le vino a la mente: el caucho.



Después de tres años de investigaciones, la revolucionaria correa de caucho estaba lista para su fabricación. Flexible, ligera y muy duradera, la correa tenía también un delicado aroma a vainilla. La correa, resistente a la corrosión, se reforzó también con inserciones invisibles de acero y con doble bisagra en la hebilla, lo que aseguraba una sólida sujeción tanto a la muñeca del portador como al reloj en sí.



Así nació el reloj Hublot, con su correa de caucho natural que aseguraba su estatus como reloj de una pieza.



Colegas y competidores expresaron sus dudas cuando Carlo Crocco presentó el reloj Hublot en la Feria de Basilea en 1980, pero se disiparon enseguida cuando se convirtió en la "sensación" del año. El reloj Hublot enseguida empezó a ser reconocido, y su aceptación superó todas las expectativas. Los miembros de varias familias reales europeas mostraron espontáneamente su entusiasmo por los relojes Hublot, y rápidamente se convirtió en la elección de diversos dirigentes mundiales.
